Birth Companion

All Birth Companion Services can be offered individually or as a package in the comfort of your own home or in the great outdoors.

Antenatal Support

I would envisage meeting with you at least twice before your labour, ideally this is in person but alternatively it can be through email, phone or Skype. At this time I would like to establish a trusty relationship between us and your family, know your wishes, needs, fears and hopes.

I am able to offer:

– Emotional support to you and your partner
– Practical support (packing your bag, nutrition, setting up your home birth environment, etc.)
– Support you in your preparation for VBAC, if you had previous C-section
– Breathing exercises and meditation techniques
– Help to deal with fears
– Positioning
– Empowering self confidence and preparation for labour
– Aromatherapy, essential oils, massage
– Appropriate reading

I am able to offer:

– Physical and emotional support for you and your partner
– Positioning, breathing exercises
– Massage with essential oils
– Nutrition for mother and partner

Postnatal Support

This is purely on a request basis, I will be there when you need me. The first couple of weeks can be chaotic and an emotional challenge. It is your decision when my support would end but generally it’s about 2-3 weeks after the birth for 2-3 days a week.

During this time I can offer:

– Help with feeding (breastfeeding or bottle feeding)
– Help you settle at home with your baby
– Help with newborn care so mother can rest
– Help with gentle exercising (strengthening tummy muscles, good for back and hip support)
– Help with household chores (shopping, cooking, light cleaning)
– Help with older siblings

Client Review

“As a first time mum I was nervous about labour and delivery, and having read about the difference that having a doula can make I sought out Kamila. I felt instantly at ease with her. Looking back on the birth now I can’t imagine having done it without Kamila – she was a huge support to me and my husband in both practical and emotional terms. She was a reassuring and encouraging presence during all my labour. I felt I could completely rely on her

She was a reassuring and encouraging presence during all my labour. I felt I could completely rely on her. My husband is from China and having our first child in the UK was a big ‘unknown’ for him, particularly in terms of it being a different culture as well as a first child. Kamila’s presence and support helped him to feel more at ease with the process and to understand how to support me. He made the comparison afterwards that giving birth without a doula would be like flying economy class long haul when you’ve already had a long tiring journey and have a lot of work to do when you reach your destination, but having a doula was like business class – it is worth spending some extra to be more comfortable when you’ve just been through pregnancy and are about to embark on the challenges of parenthood. If you are thinking of finding a doula we would definitely recommend Kamila, as she is more than just a doula, she is a very knowledgeable and supportive friend who genuinely cares about the people she works with.”
